Occupational Therapy
Our Occupational Therapists all have extensive pediatric training and have experience working with children with a variety of diagnosis and/or delays. The outpatient setting is suited to all children. However, those children treated for sensory integration disorder and children who require specialized equipment can especially benefit from the outpatient therapy setting.  Our outpatient rehab centers offer specialized swings, a sensory integration room, and for children with decreased mobility, the clinic setting allows therapists to work together during sessions to increase the child's ability to participate in the desired activities.

Some reasons a child may benefit from occupational therapy are:

  • Sensory Regulation: Problems with unexpected touch, difficulty tolerating different sensations, difficulty sitting still, difficulty with crowded places, seek rough and tumble play, enjoy falling from high places or who tend to play isolated from a group.
  • Fine Motor/Visual Motor Skills: Difficulty with manipulating small objects, stringing beads, stacking blocks, or imitating writing skills.
  • Oral Motor skills: Child who tend to leak milk from the corners of lips while nursing, unable to drink from a straw, difficulty with chewing or swallowing different textures, children with a very limited diet.
  • Cognitive/Attention Tasks: Difficulty attending to tasks during school, identifying letters and/or colors.

Physical Therapy

  • Aquatic Therapy (seasonal)
  • Orthotic Fitting and Management
  • Upper Extremity Splinting and Management
  • Wheelchair/Equipment ordering and Management
  • Modalities (Electrical Stimulation, Ultrasound, Kinesiotaping)

Some of the reasons a child may need physical therapy are:

  • Delayed Milestones: Infants-rolling, sitting up, crawling, standing, walking.
Toddlers-climbing stairs, running, jumping, riding a tricycle, galloping, skipping, hopping.
  • Clumsiness/Poor Coordination: (Ataxia, Apraxia/Dyspraxia, Developmental Coordination Disorder) Tripping, frequently loses balance, difficulty coordinating both sides of the body for an activity (skipping, riding a bicycle, etc.)
  • Weakness: (overall weakness, specific muscle weakness, poor posture, Torticollis) Poor strength of abdominals/back muscles, specific weakness following surgery or casting (broken bones, knee surgery, etc), generalized strengthening

Speech Therapy
Our Speech Language Pathologists all have extensive pediatric training and have experience working with children with a variety of diagnosis and/or delays. We also have numerous SLPs with specialty certifications to treat patients who have more specialized needs, including cleft lip/palate and augmentative communication devices. Our outpatient centers have specialty feeding rooms to work on oral motor and feeding skills, and the interaction with other therapists and children can greatly benefit those being treated for pragmatic delay and language delay. Some reasons a child may benefit from speech therapy are:

  • Articulation/Phonological Processes: Problems pronouncing words correctly, omitting or using incorrect consonants from words, such as saying wabbit instead of rabbit, ca instead of cat, etc.
  • Receptive/Expressive Language Delay: Difficulty following directions to complete a task, lack of words/vocabulary, inability to communicate basic wants and needs.
  •  Fluency Issues: Repeating words or parts of words, twitching and blinking eyes while speaking, frustration and embarrassment which often decreases child’s desire to speak.
  • Voice/Augmentative and Alternative Communication: Child has a very nasal sounding voice or loses voice for days after excessive use, apraxia – unable to use vocal communication.
  • Pragmatic Delay: Child doesn’t make eye contact, use greetings, respond to questions, express emotions, or interact appropriately with adults or peers.
  • Oral Motor/Feeding Issues: Underweight with coughing, vomiting or tearing eyes while eating, picky eaters, trouble chewing certain foods, upset by having a dirty face and trouble speaking clearly.
  • Reading Problems: Unable to read and spell words at the same level as peers, teachers have suggested child might be dyslexic or learning disabled, trouble hearing the difference in words that are similar.
